respect

r-e-s-p-e-c-t
you have no idea it means the world to me
'cause somehow, without a doubt, you always fail to see
you've never given me the one thing i need

you should respect me

you emphatically deny that deep down inside
i am human too, just like you
just like all those people you call your friends
even though, you know, in the end
for you, they wouldn't break or bend
the way i have time and time again
sacrificing the way i really feel
just to stand up to the emotional blows you deal

you have to respect me

what is it you want from me?
all you do is constantly
bother me
call me out on this and that
wonder how i did all this crap
saying, "you're not good enough,
and you'll never be, either"
oh please, compared to you, i look like
june cleaver
not that i'm perfect
everybody's got flaws
heck, thanks to you, i know that better than all

i need you to respect me

you treat me like dirt
slowly eroding all my self worth
till happiness is a faraway dream
you parade around like a queen
of the castle where i'm your court jester
saying, "lemme push, see how much i can test her"
well guess what, i finally know better
that's not what i deserve
i don't care what you've heard
i've earned what i've got
whether you like it or not

show me some freaking respect!

Bad Influence

You're a bad influence on little old me
Doing things that a child shouldn't see
But your dark secrets teach me things I never knew
I somehow find myself drawn to you
The danger in your eyes is mesmerizing
Your mysterious ways never fail at surprising
When you're near, I feel an inexplicable attraction
I can't help being compelled by your curious actions
Take a chance, you'll see I'm not just a little girl
I just need a bad boy to put some excitement in my world

Foreign Aid

When it comes to foreign aid, some are on the fence
Well, let me briefly outline the reasons against

We send other countries money, and it goes straight to the wealthy
Never mind all the dirty, starving, and unhealthy
If you think about it, all we're doing is causing more trouble
Trapping them tighter in a poverty bubble
With no chance, no hope of ever getting out
I don't know, in my mind, that casts a shadow of doubt
On this foreign aid policy, which does no good
Someone should pull a Robin Hood
You know, steal from the rich, and give to the poor
It's better than starting a third world war

Don't even get me started on military aid
I'm tired of hearing "one more US soldier killed by enemy grenade"
I myself have a cousin stationed in Qatar
If you look on a map, Iraq is really not too far
It's just me, but I'd prefer that he and others don't die
For some reason that no one but George W. Bush knows why
Oh wait, I remember, it's because we tried to help
Well, from now on, I say let them fix themselves

Not to mention that in our own "great" nation
There are thousands of daily deaths from disease and starvation
How about we give help where it'd be appreciated
Where those who come to the rescue won't be hated
Look in your neighborhood's own back yard, you'll find
Someone who could use an extra nickel or dime
And where was Condoleezza Rice when Katrina struck?
Nowhere in sight when our people had that horrible turn of luck
We've got enough problems in the US of A
Let's save the superhero business for someone else, okay?
