you have no idea it means the world to me
'cause somehow, without a doubt, you always fail to see
you've never given me the one thing i need
you should respect me
you emphatically deny that deep down inside
i am human too, just like you
just like all those people you call your friends
even though, you know, in the end
for you, they wouldn't break or bend
the way i have time and time again
sacrificing the way i really feel
just to stand up to the emotional blows you deal
you have to respect me
what is it you want from me?
all you do is constantly
bother me
call me out on this and that
wonder how i did all this crap
saying, "you're not good enough,
and you'll never be, either"
oh please, compared to you, i look like
june cleaver
not that i'm perfect
everybody's got flaws
heck, thanks to you, i know that better than all
i need you to respect me
you treat me like dirt
slowly eroding all my self worth
till happiness is a faraway dream
you parade around like a queen
of the castle where i'm your court jester
saying, "lemme push, see how much i can test her"
well guess what, i finally know better
that's not what i deserve
i don't care what you've heard
i've earned what i've got
whether you like it or not
show me some freaking respect!

Bad Influence
You're a bad influence on little old me
Doing things that a child shouldn't see
But your dark secrets teach me things I never knew
I somehow find myself drawn to you
The danger in your eyes is mesmerizing
Your mysterious ways never fail at surprising
When you're near, I feel an inexplicable attraction
I can't help being compelled by your curious actions
Take a chance, you'll see I'm not just a little girl
I just need a bad boy to put some excitement in my world
Doing things that a child shouldn't see
But your dark secrets teach me things I never knew

Foreign Aid
When it comes to foreign aid, some are on the fence
Well, let me briefly outline the reasons against
We send other countries money, and it goes straight to the wealthy
Never mind all the dirty, starving, and unhealthy
If you think about it, all we're doing is causing more trouble
Trapping them tighter in a poverty bubble
With no chance, no hope of ever getting out
I don't know, in my mind, that casts a shadow of doubt
On this foreign aid policy, which does no good
Someone should pull a Robin Hood
You know, steal from the rich, and give to the poor
It's better than starting a third world war
Don't even get me started on military aid
I'm tired of hearing "one more US soldier killed by enemy grenade"
I myself have a cousin stationed in Qatar
If you look on a map, Iraq is really not too far
It's just me, but I'd prefer that he and others don't die
For some reason that no one but George W. Bush knows why
Oh wait, I remember, it's because we tried to help
Well, from now on, I say let them fix themselves
Not to mention that in our own "great" nation
There are thousands of daily deaths from disease and starvation
How about we give help where it'd be appreciated
Where those who come to the rescue won't be hated
Look in your neighborhood's own back yard, you'll find
Someone who could use an extra nickel or dime
And where was Condoleezza Rice when Katrina struck?
Nowhere in sight when our people had that horrible turn of luck
We've got enough problems in the US of A
Let's save the superhero business for someone else, okay?

I'm Not Perfect
You say that I’m not good enough
That I can’t measure up to you
But please take a moment to realize
I am what I am, there’s nothing you can do
I’m not a spelling wizard
Or a master at the arts
I’m not a superhero with special powers
I can’t heal a broken heart
I wasn’t a child prodigy
I don’t have supermodel looks
I’m not a self-made billionaire
And I can’t write self-help books
But I don’t lie to gain popularity
I hate putting other people down
I never make promises I can’t keep
I don’t feel joy in making others frown
I don’t have thousands of friends
Though mine are the best they can be
If you ask them, for sure, they’ll tell you
That I don’t care what you think, I’m still me
That I can’t measure up to you
But please take a moment to realize
I am what I am, there’s nothing you can do
I’m not a spelling wizard
Or a master at the arts
I’m not a superhero with special powers

Get Off My Hill
Get off my hill, and leave me alone!
Stop trying to be me, I don’t need a clone.
Don’t do what I do, don’t say what I say.
If you don’t stop now, I’ll make you pay.
Be an individual, don’t be a copycat.
You annoy so many people; you’re just like a gnat.
I don’t need a follower on my journey of life.
You don’t do me any good, all you do is cause strife.
When it comes to bothering, you really have a knack.
So please leave, let me be, and never come back.
Get off, get off my hill!
Stop trying to be me, I don’t need a clone.
Don’t do what I do, don’t say what I say.

Another Blessed Child
Discreetly Echoing Fears
Guarding Himself
Intimidating
Just Krazily Lying to the Masses
No One to Please
Quietly Rambling in Speech
Trying to Understand
Victory, Win Xpected

In My Eyes
In my eyes
I am a distressed damsel trapped in a tower
And you are my knight in shining armor
Come to rescue me and take me away
From the fierce dragons
Of life
In my eyes
I am a helpless kitten stuck high up in a tree
And you are my courageous fireman
Ho reaches up and carries me down
From the tangled branches
Of life
In my eyes
I am a blind child who needs assistance to see
And you are my caring helper
Who holds my hand and guides me
Through the darkness
Of life
In my eyes
I am nothing but a spec of dust
And you are the world, you are everything
That makes me who I am
You are
My life
I am a distressed damsel trapped in a tower
And you are my knight in shining armor
Come to rescue me and take me away
From the fierce dragons

Sonnet #1
Love is a most splendid thing
It can only grow with time
It makes the receiver want to sing
Or write a poem full of rhyme
Love is like a bright, new spring day
It makes you feel nice and warm inside
When it hits, it will never fade away
It sweeps over you like an ocean tide
Love is wonderful, fabulous and great
It causes so much gladness and cheer
It erases all feelings and memories of hate
It gives you courage and takes away fear
Love leads to marriage, husband and wife
Once you’ve found love, you’ve found happiness for life
It can only grow with time
It makes the receiver want to sing
Or write a poem full of rhyme
Love is like a bright, new spring day
It makes you feel nice and warm inside
When it hits, it will never fade away
It sweeps over you like an ocean tide

First Line Poetry
Long years of pleasant friendship may be broken
And many months of hidden woes awoken
If you leave me now, and I shall feel lost and alone
With only the painful memories and sorrows that are my own
I make no question of your right to go
Nor of your free will to move on in life, or to grow
But if you were to stay, we could share eternity together
You would be my savior, and I your, forever
In this deep hush and quiet of my soul
I promise my heart to only you, I give it in whole
If you remain here with me, we can have a love that is true
We could build on our friendship, or start our relationship anew
Pause not to dream of the future before us
In time, you will come to a decision that is just
For now, let us savor possible the last of your time with me
Or perhaps just the last of separate “me” and “you,” the start of “we”
And many months of hidden woes awoken
If you leave me now, and I shall feel lost and alone
With only the painful memories and sorrows that are my own
I make no question of your right to go

Hamburger
The quintessence of the American meal
Ordering is a simple, quick ordeal
A common sight at fast-food hot spots
More popular even than Dip ‘N” Dots
If in a rush, just grab one of these
To put your restless hunger pangs at ease
Though far from healthy the taste is quite grand
Of the delightful dish of a burger called ham

Phone
My lifeline to the latest news
For advice on what to wear, which purse and which shoes
To call my friends any time of day
To find out homework if I was away
One can be used to order food for dinner
Or to call radio stations to see if I’m a contest winner
I can call relatives I never get to see
To simply put it, my phone is a part of me
For advice on what to wear, which purse and which shoes

Candle
In the cold and dark of night
I’m led through it all by candlelight
Slowly burning wax till it’s gone
But lasting until the crack of dawn
Lighting my way in a dim place
When I otherwise can’t see right in front of my face
While also giving me warmth when I’m in need of it
But it won’t do any good if I forget that it’s not lit
I’m led through it all by candlelight
Slowly burning wax till it’s gone

Lighting my way in a dim place

Autumn
Early in the morning, a chilly wind blows
Howling through the near-empty tree branches
As the colorful leaves fall towards the ground
Swirls of red, brown, orange and yellow
Crunching under my feet as I walk through them
My dad rakes them all into a huge pile
My little sister and I jump in and play
For a fleeting moment, I feel like a kid again
I can see my breath in the cool weather
Soon it will start getting even colder
Snow will begin to cover the bare branches
Autumn will give way to winter
It will be fall no longer
Howling through the near-empty tree branches
As the colorful leaves fall towards the ground
Swirls of red, brown, orange and yellow
Crunching under my feet as I walk through them
My dad rakes them all into a huge pile

The Holidays Aren't For Me
I could do without all the commotion
That comes with this time of year
I could survive without the holiday rush
That so many others hold dear
Shopping for gifts doesn’t excite me
I don’t enjoy decorating a tree
Seeing colorful lights everywhere is a bore
Though most people would disagree
You could say that I’m a “scrooge”
That I’m always miserable and blue
But, truth is, I don’t have the heart to celebrate
Since my one true love broke it in two
That comes with this time of year
I could survive without the holiday rush
That so many others hold dear
Shopping for gifts doesn’t excite me
I don’t enjoy decorating a tree

Christmas Break
(Sing to the tune of “Deck the Halls”)
Christmas break is growing so near
No-more-school-no-more school no-more school
Almost time to start the new year
No-more-school-no-more school no-more school
Weather outside’s getting colder
No-more-school, no-more-school, no more school
Soon I’ll be one more year older
No-more-school-no more school no-more-school
Time to bake gingerbread cookies
No-more-school-no-more school no-more school
Grown-ups buy gifts, kids try looking
No-more-school-no-more school no-more school
Send out party invitations
No-more-school, no-more-school, no more school
Because it’s Christmas vacation
No-more-school-no-more school no-more school!

I Remember
I remember reading the Bible before bed
Talking about Jesus till it was stuck in my head
Crying in her arms when people made me sad
Her always being forgiving when I made her mad
I remember taking long walks to the store
Her leaving from her visits, making me miss her more
Eating dark chocolates and finishing leftovers
Picking through grass trying to find a 4-leaf clover
I remember digging through her purse for bubble gum
Playing with Uno cards and having lots of fun
All the movies and videos we saw
I remember being close and growing up with my grandma
Talking about Jesus till it was stuck in my head
Crying in her arms when people made me sad
Her always being forgiving when I made her mad
I remember taking long walks to the store
Her leaving from her visits, making me miss her more

Once I Was
Once I was a little girl
Always enjoying acting immature
But in reality, I didn’t want to be small
I wanted to be a big girl, now I am
Once I was extremely shy
I was too scared to make many friends
I wanted so bad to b outgoing
I wanted to be louder, now I am
Once I was such a naïve person
I trusted everything I was told
I was tired of being hurt by lies
I wanted to be less gullible, now I am
Once I was just another clone
I changed to be like everyone else
But I wanted to be different
I wanted to be myself, now I am
Always enjoying acting immature
But in reality, I didn’t want to be small
I wanted to be a big girl, now I am
Once I was extremely shy
I was too scared to make many friends

Central Park
In the tall, great oaks
A tiny creature scampers to make its home
It drops a small bundle of leaves
Which lands on a nearby branch
On this shaded bench
An old man takes his afternoon nap
He is tranquil, at peace
Till a racing cab forces him awake
The speeding taxi holds a young woman
In a rush to get to a meeting on time
Who, while waiting for the stoplight
Watches the tiny creature in the great oak
Giant green oak tree swaying
Elderly men relaxing on benches
Taxi cabs whizzing right by
This is the endless cycle at Central Park
A tiny creature scampers to make its home
It drops a small bundle of leaves
Which lands on a nearby branch

Four Stages
In the beginning, we were the best little buddies
We’d play together every day
If I got hurt, you’d kiss it and make it all better
Then, we started school
In elementary school, we were in the same class
We did our homework together before we ran off to play in the trees
If I got in trouble, you held my hand and made me feel okay
Then, we entered high school
In high school, we didn’t see each other much anymore
We didn’t sit together, we hung out with different crowds
We got older, and we drifted apart
Then graduation came, and we went our separate ways
Now we’re grown up, with our own homes, our own lives
And I wish I had someone
To kiss away my pain, or comfort me
I miss you, my old friend
We’d play together every day
If I got hurt, you’d kiss it and make it all better
Then, we started school
In elementary school, we were in the same class
We did our homework together before we ran off to play in the trees
