The 1930s were a tough time
For everyone living then
People were beyond dirt poor
To the point that poverty united most men
Depression was still new to some
But they got used to its ways
The people living in the Dust Bowl, though,
Had to deal with the horror day by day
It wasn’t just the U.S. with problems
In Germany, Hitler began his rise to the top
People were so afraid and powerless
They just couldn’t bring him to a stop
Life was bad for everybody
Whether they were white or black, Christian or Jew
Luckily, there were good people like Roosevelt
Who helped indefinitely to pull us through
